Severe anaphylactic allergy reactions to known non steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs
Asthma precipitated by known non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

Known severe renal insufficiency
Known liver disease
Heart failure
Uncontrolled hypertension
Fluid retention
Known previous peptic ulcer, or haemorrhage, especially in the elderly
Side
effects
Allergies
- rashes, urticaria, rarely anaphylaxis
Cardiovascular - Fluid retention, aggravated hypertension, and heart
failure
Gastrointestinal - Abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, diarrhoea, peptic
ulcers, gastrointestinal bleed. (Ulcer and bleeding may occur from other
causes than anti-inflammatories. Studies show no increase in serious
side effects compared to placebo)
Neurological - Dizziness, headache, insomnia
Drug
interactions
Caution
required with warfarin, especially on initiation. Trials showed no
change in the INR with celecoxib.
No interaction with methotrexate
Interaction is noted with:
Lithium - levels rise with celecoxib use
Fluconazole - increased blood levels of celecoxib is noted with
fluconazole
Aspirin - can be used with celecoxib, but increases risk of peptic
ulceration
